East Portland Kids Dentistry

As East Portland kids dentistry experts Dr. Arend and the friendly staff  at East Portland Dentistry believe that dental care should start as early as possible in a child’s life to ensure optimal dental health. Parents often ask us how they can provide the best dental care for their children, which we’ve included in the following frequently asked questions:

When should I first bring my child to the dentist?

Your child’s first visit to the dentist should occur at age 2, or earlier if you have specific concerns. This visit will allow you to introduce your child to our Portland dental office in a friendly and easy-going atmosphere. We want you and your child to become comfortable here, so if treatment is needed, we can make their first experience a positive one.

When will my child lose their first tooth?

Loss of the first primary (or baby) tooth usually takes place around 6 years of age, though it depends on each child’s development. Some children start loss of their primary teeth as early as 5 or as late as 8 years of age.

Am I allowed to come back to the treatment rooms with my child?

Absolutely! Though some children do better without the parent in the room, many kids need the extra assurance of having a parent with them throughout the appointment. We respect your right to choose what feels comfortable for your family.
