Esthetic Crowns

Close up 3D rendering of a shaved down tooth being capped with a porcelain dental crown. If you have stained or crooked teeth, you may opt to repair these teeth if you want to have a perfect smile. Usually tooth stains can be resolved by whitening procedures, but developmental tooth stains that fail to respond to teeth whitening can be resolved with porcelain crowns. Our team at East Portland Dentistry values both aesthetics and function when conducting dental procedures. As such we offer porcelain crowns that mimic the appearance and light-reflecting aspects of natural teeth.

Importance of CERAMIC Crowns

There are many advantages of having our dentists treat your teeth with ceramic crowns. Porcelain and ceramic crowns look and feel like your natural teeth. They have a translucency that mimics your natural enamel allowing light to reflect like a real tooth. Many esthetic crowns don't have metals that some people have allergic reactions to, making them a safer alternative. Porcelain crowns can fill gaps between teeth or even make your crowded teeth look straighter, thereby alleviating the need for orthodontics.

Fitting Ceramic Crowns

Our team starts the process of preparing crowns by doing a clinical evaluation. We perform a detailed exam of the teeth so that we determine if you are a candidate for the restorations. Thereafter, once we have ascertained that you can benefit from these crowns, we prepare the teeth. We reduce the size of your teeth in order to suitably size and shape the tooth-like crowns to be attached. Our team gets an impression after the tooth preparation. We use that impression or model of the teeth to construct your crowns.

Once we get the crowns ready from the lab, we place them over the teeth and see if they fit properly and look as desired. If there are changes to make, we perform them right away and if you are satisfied with the final results of your prosthesis, we will fit them permanently over your teeth using adhesive cement.

Tips to Care for Ceramic Crowns

You obviously want your crowns to last longer, so you need to take care of them. First, do not eat hard and sticky foods. If you try biting hard foods with the crowns, you can fracture them instantly. Similarly, sticky foods are likely to pull the porcelain crowns, dislodging them from their position. Moreover, you should ensure good oral hygiene. Just like you take care of your regular teeth, ensure you look after your esthetic crowns. Brushing and flossing the teeth regularly gets rid of food debris and plaque, which can result in cavities under your crowns, reducing their lifespan and possibly cause loss of the tooth. Do not forget to visit our office regularly for routine checkups. During these visits, we will address any problems with the crowns and gums or other teeth and provide treatment.
